Tottenham and Arsenal were both linked with summer moves for Marseille midfielder

Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson has told Le10Sport that he had offers to leave the club this summer.

Sanson says that despite the offers, he always wanted to stay put at Marseille.

French publication La Provence reported in June that both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were keen on the midfielder.

Sanson, who struck 12 goals from midfield last season, has insisted that staying at Marseille was always his priority.

He said: “I was asked. Thinking about leaving the club, of course not. I’m still learning in a very big club, there was no doubt that I’m staying in Marseille.”

Sanson added that he was not worried about Marseille signing Kevin Strootman in the summer.

He said: “When I heard the name of Kevin Strootman, I liked it. He is a professional, who is very good. To have players like that in Marseille, it’s great for me who am rather young. It still allows me to learn. It also shows that OM is attractive to recruit such players, it’s only positive.”

Of the interested sides, Arsenal are less likely to pursue Sanson after adding Mateo Guendouzi in the summer along with Lucas Torreira.

Tottenham did not make any signings and could still look to sign Sanson in the future, but the 24-year-old seems happy to stay at the club he signed for in 2016.
