Michael Dawson praised the ‘really positive’ Oliver Skipp and the start he has had at Tottenham this season, as he told Sky Sports Football (07/09/21 at 6:50 pm).
The Tottenham ambassador has claimed that Skipp is ‘keeping big players out of the team’ in North London.
Skipp has started all three games for Spurs this term, helping them secure three wins and three clean sheets to boot.
The likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks have seemingly fallen behind the 20-year-old in the midfield pecking order.
But before his injury scare for England U21’s yesterday, this is what Dawson had to say about Skipp.
“You see when he went to Norwich, Daniel Farke did a brilliant job with him,” said Dawson. “He built his team around him.
“He plays forward. He sits just in front of the back four. Since he has gone back to Spurs, he is keeping big players out of the team.
“He has played alongside Hojbjerg, which is a great experience for him. He has played every game for the first three games and won every one. Really positive and simple player.”
The issue facing Spurs now, is will Skipp be available for their clash against Crystal Palace at the weekend?
After hobbling off for his country yesterday, there are Spurs fans who are fretting that he might now be sidelined.
Skipp is putting in such performances that if he continues it for several more months then there’s no reason why he can’t become a senior England player.
Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips are locking down those holding roles, but Gareth Southgate, just like he already has at right-back, needs more depth in that area.
