It’s the start of the end for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and what a journey it has been.
Whilst Liverpool fans still come to terms with his soon-to-be exit, the club now have to plan for the future and his replacement.
Sources told HITC Football when Jurgen Klopp’s exit was announced that Bayer Leverkusen’s high-flying coach, Xabi Alonso, is on the club’s list.
Not only is the Spaniard doing an amazing job in Germany, but his past links with Liverpool just increase the chances of him getting the gig.
Tottenham ambassador Michael Dawson has backed Xabi Alonso for the Liverpool job by stating that he is the ‘right fit’, as he told Sky Sports (27/01/24 at 2:15 pm).
As of this moment, Leverkusen are sitting top of the Bundesliga table, but the all-conquering Bayern Munich are hunting them down and they are only two points behind.
If Xabi Alonso does the unthinkable and wins the German title, then it will only increase talk of him making a return to Anfield.
Michael Dawson labelled him as ‘remarkable’ and thinks he is the man for the Reds.
Xabi Alonso at Liverpool
“For me, at this moment in time, Xabi Alonso would be the right fit,” said Dawson. “The link with the football club and what he is doing at Leverkusen. He is remarkable.
“But in three or four months, it could be different. It could be entirely different.
“Whoever gets that job is going into an unbelievable football club, with all the history and he has the players there to try and carry on. He might change the philosophy.”

Xabi Alonso’s lack of experience
On paper, you can see why Liverpool would push for the 42-year-old, who is only starting his first full season as a manager.
But can those on Merseyside afford to go for him knowing that he is still trying to climb the ladder and isn’t for the here and now?
When you have someone like Virgil van Dijk raising doubts about his future, then this Klopp replacement has to be perfect, or else, the German won’t be the only one leaving.
If the likes of van Dijk and Mohamed Salah go, then Liverpool are really in trouble!
