Michael Dawson has admitted that he was ‘surprised’ by Antonio Conte’s transfer comments about Tottenham, as he told Sky Sports News (19/02/22 at 12:25 pm).
The Tottenham ambassador claimed that he is ‘not so sure’ whether Conte’s comments to Sky Italia were of any benefit.
There is no doubt that Conte’s comments were mixed slightly when translated and, once again, it was wrongfully suggested that he might be unhappy when it’s far from that.
But one thing the Italian did state is that Spurs let more players out than they brought in during the January transfer window.
That was touched upon by former centre-back, Dawson, who added that the one-time Premier League winning manager would have surely given the ‘green light’ to players like Dele Alli leaving.
“Not so sure (he would benefit from saying it),” said Dawson. “I am surprised he has come out and said it.
“I would surely think that he would give the green light to let the players go, Dele Alli, Ndombele and Lo Celso.
“I am thinking, you weren’t playing them, so what are they like in and around the dressing room? What are they like in the squad? Okay, you have brought Bentancur and Kulusevski in.
“Whether that’s Paratici that has brought him. Surely as a manager, you have to give the green light? Whether I am right or wrong, I don’t know. But for them four, they weren’t playing under him, anyway.”

Tottenham fans shouldn’t fear much regarding Conte’s comments because, just like Jose Mourinho, he is a forthright individual.
That doesn’t mean that he is unhappy, but more or less him telling it like it is and nothing more.
Added with that, Tottenham’s win at Manchester City yesterday further proved that there aren’t any problems at Hotspur Way.
Those three defeats on the bounce didn’t help matters, but they have showcased this fight and mental strength to score late goals, something which Spurs haven’t showcased in a while.
