Tottenham Hotspur are now interested in signing Crystal Palace star Michael Olise, years after passing on the chance to sign him as a teenager.

Tottenham have completed two January signings and are surely in the market for more.

Striker Timo Werner came in on loan from RB Leipzig last week, just days before Tottenham pulled off the signing of Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.

A speedy striker with no long-term commitment and beating Bayern Munich to a signing seems like a pretty strong window for Spurs.

There is time yet for another arrival but Tottenham may already have one eye on the summer as they fancy signing Crystal Palace ace Michael Olise.

HITC Football understands that Tottenham have shown a real interest in signing Palace star Olise.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Chelsea are also keen but Spurs are right there in the race.

Olise has bagged five goals in just nine Premier League games this season and is expected to leave Palace in the summer.

It’s easy to imagine a silky dribbler and creative force like Olise playing under Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham could now push to sign the Frenchman as they look to correct missing out on him as a kid.

Former Tottenham youth coach Mehmet Ali told Berkshire Live in 2022 that Olise came on trial with Tottenham at Under-14 level having left Chelsea.

Ali seemed to indicate that Olise wasn’t picked up by Tottenham and he ended up at Reading instead, where he became a first-team ace and earned his move to Palace.

Olise could have been a Tottenham player a long time ago but whether he would have reached the same heights on that path is unclear.

“He has always been a talent. He was at Chelsea until U14s and he actually went on trial to Manchester City and Tottenham, and I was at Tottenham at the time. You could see he was a very talented young man and with him, it was always his mindset and character to be able to cope with the top level. But as he’s getting older and maturing he’s doing that,” said Ali.

What we know now is that Olise is fulfilling his potential at Palace and the time may now be right for that move to Tottenham.

A deal won’t come cheap and Spurs will face enormous competition but having passed on the chance to sign Olise as a teenager, Spurs could now pounce for his best years.
