The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been linked with an exit from the club this summer.
Tottenham ace Victor Wanyama insisted that he is going nowhere this summer, despite being linked with an exit from the club, as quoted by ESPN.
The Kenyan joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth £11 million, according to BBC Sport, and he has gone on to make 93 appearances in all competitions for the north London outfit.
The powerful midfielder faces an uncertain future with Tottenham, however, especially after the recent big money arrival of Tanguy Ndombele.
The Daily Mail reported back in April that Spurs were willing to let Wanyama leave this summer for around £20 million, in order to raise funds.
The 27-year-old, who earns £65,000 per week according to Spotrac, told ESPN how he fully intents to be playing for Tottenham until at least the end of his contract in the summer of 2021, however:
“I will be back in training with Spurs next week. I do not want to dwell much on speculations because it’s normal for a player to be linked with other clubs when the transfer window is open but I’m not going anywhere. I have not spoken to any other team because I aim to remain at Spurs and to help my team next season. I have a running contract with Tottenham which I intend to honor.”
Wanyama has his work cut-out if he is to be a regular starter for Spurs next season, but his desire to stay and fight for his place must be admired.
On his day, he is an important player for Tottenham, and Mauricio Pochettino will surely be more than happy to keep him at the club this summer.
