The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder hasn’t scored as many goals as he would have liked.
Tottenham ace Moussa Sissoko fielded questions from his teammates during a feature interview with the club’s official website, and he responded when asked by Jan Vertonghen why he doesn’t score many goals.
The 29-year-old joined Spurs from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016 for around £30 million, according to BBC Sport, and despite struggling to establish himself initially, he really rose to prominence for Mauricio Pochettino’s side last season.
Despite the Frenchman’s improved form for Tottenham last season, his attacking output still left a lot to be desired, with just four assists and zero goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.
And Sissoko responded when asked by Jan Vertonghen why his goal return has been so poor for Spurs, when speaking during a feature interview with the club’s official website:
“I’m not surprised with this question. Having said that, it’s true and I should score more goals. Now, maybe I’ve changed my position a bit, a little deeper. I’ve had chances and should do better, but the most important thing is that we play well as a team and win. I think myself and Jan should have a challenge – see who scores the most goals.”
In fairness to Sissoko, he was deployed in a far deeper role for Tottenham last season to what he has be accustomed to before.
And as long as the France international keeps playing to the level that he has done over the past 12 months, he will continue to be a key player for Spurs, with or without goals and assists.
