The Tottenham Hotspur stopper proved that he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level last season.

Tottenham stopper Paulo Gazzaniga sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and suggested that last season was one of the best years of his career to date.

The Argentine made 11 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, and really impressed when filling in for Hugo Lloris between the sticks.

Gazzaniga joined Tottenham from Southampton in the summer of 2017, and despite playing second fiddle to the Frenchman since then, he is expected to push the Frenchman really hard for the number one spot next term.

The 27-year-old seems as though he is ready for more regular game-time at Spurs, and he told the club’s official website how last season was one of the best that he has experienced during his career thus far:

“The season was long, I was involved in some games – big games – and, for me, it’s been one of the best years in my career. To reach the final of the Champions League, not everyone can experience that. Also, the first call for the national team, my debut in the Champions League… everything for me has been amazing and can still be even better.”

Hugo Lloris made a number of high profile errors for Tottenham last season, and should he display any kind of shaky form at all next term, Gazzaniga will be waiting in the wings to capitalise.

He has proven that he’s good enough, but much will depend on whether Mauricio Pochettino believes that next season is the right time to give him a prolonged chance between the sticks for the first-team.
