Tottenham Hotspur face a real challenge if they want to make Wembley feel like home this season.

Spurs ace Christian Eriksen spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and made the surprise statement that the Wembley pitch should in fact benefit the Tottenham side this season.

Many have predicted that Mauricio Pochettino’s men will struggle to emulate last season’s second place finish in the Premier League table, due to the fact that all of their home games will be played at the England national team’s home.

And following yesterday’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to bitter rivals Chelsea, it looks like it could be a totally contrasting home campaign for Spurs this season, after their record of 17 wins and two draws at White Hart Lane last term.

Eriksen, though, has a different view on the effect the Wembley pitch will have on his Tottenham side this season, as quoted by TottenhamHotspur.com:

“Football-wise, there is no real difference. In fact, it only really helps us with possession when we have the ball on a bigger pitch. As players, we don’t read anything into it and I don’t think anyone should on the outside either. We will get it turned around.”

Whatever happens, Pochettino’s men will have to start churning out results at home sooner rather than later, if they are to mount a serious title challenge, and go one step further than last time around.

And the longer their wait goes on for their first Premier League home win at Wembley, the harder that feat will become.
