Tottenham are reportedly in talks with academy product Kyle Walker-Peters over a new deal in north London, but surely the defender should reject any approach made by Spurs?
The 21-year-old only recently signed a new contract earlier this season after breaking into the Spurs senior side following a man-of-the-match display in his debut – a 2-0 Premier League win over Newcastle United.
Since then, the arrival of Serge Aurier and the form of England international Kieran Trippier has seen Walker-Peters made to wait on the sidelines under Mauricio Pochettino.
The five-time England Under-21 international has been afforded just eight league and cup appearances this season, but ESPN claim Spurs are in talks with the youngster over a new deal that will see him earn an improved weekly wage.
But surely, Walker-Peters should reject Spurs’ advances in order to further his career, as he remains third choice for the right-back slot. Instead, the pocket-sized ace should be considering a move this summer.
Spurs’ number 37 boasts excellent pace and even showed his willingness to get forward in Spurs’ 6-1 win over Rochdale in The FA Cup, opening his account for Pochettino’s side.
But if Walker-Peters is to go on and turn potential into proven quality, he must reject chairman Daniel Levy’s advances and instead look to leave Tottenham as he remains unlikely to shift both Aurier and Trippier.
Unless he can be given first-team assurances by Pochettino, which are particularly unlikely, Walker-Peters must put his Tottenham connection behind him and look for pastures new this summer.
