The Tottenham Hotspur star admitted his gratitude for the time he spent at Burnley.
Tottenham star Kieran Trippier spoke to reporters after England’s 1-1 draw with Italy at Wembley last night, and attributed his recent success to the years that he spent working under Sean Dyche at Burnley, as quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph.
The 27-year-old joined Spurs from the Clarets in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.5 million, and after playing second fiddle to Kyle Walker in his first two seasons in north London, he has now established himself as a first-team regular for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Trippier has really impressed for the Lilywhites over this past year or so, and has earned five international caps for England in the process.
The former Burnley man spoke to reporters after earning his fifth cap for his country last night, and gave huge credit to Sean Dyche for his recent rise to prominence, as quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph:
“I’m delighted to be in the England team, but I’ve so much to thank Burnley for. Sean Dyche, the manager, worked me extremely hard when I was there, and I’ve got to give him a lot of credit. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all the years I was at Burnley. I’m just so grateful for the opportunity I got at Burnley.”
Trippier still has a lot to play for with Tottenham before the season finishes, and if he continues to show the form that he has displayed this term, he has every chance of starting for England at the World Cup in Russia this summer.
