The Tottenham Hotspur youngster was given just his 10th start of the season on Wednesday night.

Tottenham ace Juan Foyth spoke exclusively to the club’s official website in the aftermath of his side’s fine Champions League win against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, and admitted that he was surprised when Mauricio Pochettino told him that he would be starting the game, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The 21-year-old joined Spurs from Argentinian side Estudiantes in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £8 million, but he has made just 18 appearances in all competitions since then.

Foyth is undoubtedly talented, but he seems to be rather rough around the edges, although the more games he plays at the very highest level will only serve to aid his development as a footballer.

And the Argentine admitted that it came as somewhat of a shock to him, when he found out that he would be starting Tottenham’s Champions League tie against the Bundesliga outfit last week, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“It was fantastic, really. The Champions League is a dream for every player. When the gaffer told me I was starting I was a little bit surprised but really, really happy. I told my family, my friends and I enjoyed the game a lot.”

Foyth will now be hoping for more regular starts for Tottenham between now and the end of the season, as his side continue their quest to end their 11-year wait for a major trophy.
