The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder idolised the Liverpool legend growing up.
Tottenham ace Harry Winks sat down for an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, and shared how he once sent Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard a letter asking for advice.
Winks, 23, has developed into a truly elite midfield player over the past few years, and he is now considered to be a regular starter for Spurs, as well as being a trusted member of the England squad.
The Hemel Hempstead-born midfielder has made 99 senior appearances for Tottenham, but his tally of just two goals and two assists certainly needs to be improved upon if he is to reach the next level.
Winks admitted that Steven Gerrard was his idol when he was growing up, when speaking to Sky Sports, and he still has a long way to go if he is to emulate the Liverpool and England legend.
The Tottenham ace told Sky Sports how he once sent the now Rangers manager a letter asking for advice:
“Steven Gerrard was always someone I looked up to. I actually wrote him a letter years ago, but never got a return! I didn’t expect him to, I think I sent it to the Liverpool training ground when I was about six or seven years old!”
Gerrard really was a true great, but one thing that he didn’t win was the Premier League title, and Tottenham ace Winks will be hoping that he can get one up on his idol by lifting the top flight crown before he hangs up his boots.
