Tottenham Hotspur have not won a trophy since 2008.
Tottenham ace Dele Alli sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and shared the moment when he wanted the ground to swallow him up.
Spurs have enjoyed a relatively successful campaign this season, but they have received criticism for their failure to win a trophy once again.
The last time the Lilywhites won any form of silverware was in 2008, and despite Mauricio Pochettino’s fantastic work during his time in charge at the club, his team seem to have a mental block when it comes to winning trophies.
Their most recent disappointment was their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at Wembley last month, and Dele told the club’s official website just how much the loss affected him and his teammates:
“I was so disappointed, it was one of those moments in football where you want the ground to swallow you up. We had to bounce back, stay strong and we got the points against Watford. We’ll keep fighting until the end.”
The north London outfit are still on course to finish inside the top four, and in doing so, they would secure Champions League football for the third consecutive season.
They need five points from their remaining three games in order to do just that, but if their critics are to be truly silenced, they really do need to win a trophy next season.
