Ajax were too good for Tottenham Hotspur in the end last night.
Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen spoke to reporters after his side’s 1-0 defat to Ajax in the Champions League last night, and suggested that he has spotted a weak-link in the Dutch outfit’s game, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Spurs were second best for the first 30 minutes against Ajax, with Erik ten Hag’s side playing some wonderfully exciting football.
The Dutch outfit were first to every ball, and the fact that Tottenham had three centre-backs played right into their hands.
Spurs switched things up at half-time, however, changing to a flat back four, and crowding central midfield, getting in and around the Ajax players quicker than they did in the first-half.
They also played more direct into Fernando Llorente, and Eriksen told reporters how Ajax struggled to cope with that particular threat from Tottenham, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“Second-half we knew the long ball was coming and we put pressure on them there.”
Tottenham know they have to win in Amsterdam next week, and they will have Heung-Min Son back and available for selection, so they are far from out of the tie.
Whether they will opt to play with a more direct style in the return leg, however, remains to be seen.
