Tottenham have enjoyed another brilliant campaign under Mauricio Pochettino. However, things could have been much different for them had Harry Kane remained fit throughout.

If Tottenham Hotspur’s season is presented on a wave motion graph it will be something along the lines of: crest, trough, and crest again. They started the season on a bright note. They lost their way for a while, and again picked themselves up when it really mattered.
Season’s low point
Tottenham’s worst spell of the season coincided with Harry Kane’s absence through injury. The England striker suffered an ankle injury in September that ruled him out for seven to eight weeks.
Spurs dropped points against West Bromwich Albion, Bournemouth FC, Leicester City, and Arsenal in the Premier League since mid October. They won just a single game in the entire month of November, and were knocked out of the EFL Cup and the Champions League as well.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side hit the nadir with back to back defeats against Monaco (2-1) and Chelsea (2-1). The defeat to Monaco saw them crushing out of the Champions league group stage, while they dropped off the pace in the Premier League following yet another defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Season’s high point
Tottenham enjoyed the best spell after their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in December. They regrouped themselves with two back to back home wins against Hull City and Burnley.
The trio of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen made a huge impact, and from there on Spurs enjoyed a great run in the league. Not only have they played some scintillating football, but also have climbed up the ladder quickly.
They won six league games in a row after the loss at Old Trafford. And they lost just once in their next 14 league games since that defeat. They gave Chelsea a taste of their own medicine at White Hart Lane, fought hard to seal a 2-2 draw away to Manchester City, and scored freely against teams below them.
Tottenham fans have every right to wonder what it would have been like if Kane had remained fit throughout the season. How would the season have panned out had Spurs not lost momentum during mid October to mid December?
The title may have slipped away from their reach, but Tottenham players can take great pride from their performance this season.
