Richard Keys has expressed his sympathy on Twitter for Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope after he was sent off against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at St. James’ Park, meaning that he will not play against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final.
Newcastle suffered a defeat at the hands of Liverpool at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Goalkeeper Pope started the match.
The 30-year-old has been one of the best players in the Premier League so far this season and has been superb for Newcastle.
The £100,000-a-week (SalarySport) England international goalkeeper, though, was sent off against Liverpool.
Pope handled the ball outside the Newcastle penalty box and was shown a straight red card.
This means that the goalkeeper will be suspended for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United.
BeIN SPORT presenter Keys, formerly of Sky Sports, believes that it is harsh that Pope will miss the final when he was sent off in a different competition.
Former Newcastle striker Michael Owen also feels for Pope.
