Garth Crooks believes Arsenal’s first goal against Leicester City came straight off the training ground, as per his comments to BBC Sport.

Arsenal picked up an impressive victory over Leicester on Sunday, as they stormed to a 3-1 win at the King Power Stadium.

The Gunners had gone behind early on, but they found their way back into the contest through a set piece.

Arsenal aren’t the biggest team, but they still pose a threat from dead ball situations, and their first goal at the weekend impressed Crooks.

He noticed that Luiz looked ‘totally uninterested’ as Willian put the ball down.

However, when the cross was delivered the £8 million Brazilian (Sky) came to life, and he powered home Willian’s cross to level the scores.

And Crooks said: “You can’t tell me the move for his goal wasn’t planned.
“David Luiz and Willian knew exactly what they were doing. Luiz looked totally uninterested during the set-up with his hands on his hips watching events. His movement across the face of the six-yard box was excellent and matched only by his header – Arsenal’s equaliser.

“It’s quite commendable that Luiz is still prepared to put his head into dangerous areas considering his clash of heads with Wolves’ Raul Jimenez, which put both players out of action for some time.”

If the move was drawn up, as Crooks suggests, then Mikel Arteta and Arsenal’s coaching staff deserve great credit for their ingenuity on the training ground.

The Gunners only had minimal time to put together a game plan for Leicester, as they had played in the Europa League on Thursday night, but it worked to perfection.

Arsenal’s win has boosted them up to 10th place in the Premier League table, with their next game coming against Burnley at the weekend.
