Arsenal have released a statement slamming the referees after the match against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, and Michael Owen is not happy.
Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park this past Saturday evening.
The only goal of the match came in the 64th minute.
Anthony Gordon scored the goal.
Michael Owen on Arsenal statement after Newcastle United controversy
VAR had to check whether the ball had gone out of play, for a foul, and for offside.
Arsenal were not happy that the goal stood in the end and have slammed the match officials in a statement on their official website.
Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen is not happy at all, as you can see below.
Owen believes that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was not right in criticising the referees after the match.
The former Newcastle striker has added that Arsenal were classless in putting out the statement after the game.
The Gunners are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 11 matches.
Arsenal are three points behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City.
My View: Arsenal wrong to put out statement
In my opinion, Arsenal should not have released the statement about match officials after the game against Newcastle United.
I understand Arsenal’s frustrations.

But, at the same time, I think that clubs like Arsenal should be classy and remain dignified.
There is no need to release official statements after refereeing issues.
Arsenal would have been better off keeping it all behind the scenes.
After all, what is the statement going to achieve?
Moreover, Arsenal should look at themselves and ask whether they could have done better against Newcastle.
