Gabriel Jesus enhanced his popularity among Arsenal supporters with another goal on Sunday.

The former Manchester City attacker scored in a 3-0 victory away to Brentford as the Gunners moved top of the Premier League standings going into the international break.

Arsenal’s next outing isn’t for two weeks when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates Stadium in a fascinating North London derby.

Jesus is likely to be as fresh as a daisy for that occasion by virtue of the fact that he, along with Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Magalhaes, were not included in the Brazil squad for their upcoming fixtures.

And Garth Crooks has admitted that it’s a ‘total mystery’ to him as to why the 25-year-old didn’t get the call-up.

He told BBC Sport: “From the moment Gabriel Jesus put on an Arsenal shirt he’s been playing like a man possessed. His enthusiasm and appetite for the game is immense. He’s not just scoring goals for the Gunners but leading the line.

“His movement around the pitch is fantastic and he plays the game with an infectious arrogance that is spreading through the Arsenal team like wildfire, and the reason why they currently sit on top of the Premier League.

“Why Brazil haven’t selected him for their national team during the international break is a total mystery to me.”

It’s entirely possible that Jesus’s absence from the Brazil squad is because of how established he is already.

Tite, his manager at international level, already knows what the Arsenal forward can do and he’ll no doubt he aware of excellent he is playing this season.

By not included Jesus, Tite can experiment and bring other players into the international fold.

The likelyhood of the Arsenal player not going to the World Cup is extremely remote, particularly if he keeps scoring under Mikel Arteta between now and then.
