Elias Sorensen is arguably Newcastle United’s brightest prospect and has suggested that his dream is to work with Rafa Benitez.

In comments reported by the Chronicle, Elias Sorensen has suggested that his hero growing up was Fernando Torres and his dream would be to be managed by current Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez.

Sorensen is the most exciting talent in the Magpies’ ranks. His goal in the 2-0 Checkatrade Trophy win over Notts County on Tuesday night was his eighth of the season for the club’s youth sides.

It prompted a number of fans to suggest on Twitter that it was time for Benitez to hand him a chance in the first-team as they continue to struggle for goals and results. And Sorensen suggested that he would realise a dream if he got the chance to work under the Spaniard in the future.

“The player that I really looked up to when I was a kid was Fernando Torres at Liverpool. I thought he was unbelievable,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.

“It’s a massive thing to be at a club where Rafa Benitez is. He is a big-name manager and he has won the Champions League. It would be the dream to be managed by him.”

His form should certainly leave Benitez sitting up and taking notice. Newcastle have scored just six goals in the Premier League this season, with his cluster of forwards so far providing three of those strikes.

It is an alarming stat. And while their struggles may count against the 19-year-old in the short-term – Benitez handing a youngster his debut when Newcastle already find themselves three points adrift of safety seems unlikely – perhaps the more desperation kicks in, the more worthwhile it becomes to hand Sorensen his chance.

He is showing an enormous amount of confidence, so perhaps it would be foolish to write off the forward’s hopes of realising his dream of playing under Benitez this season.
