Arsenal and Tottenham were this weekend linked to Napoli ace Milik.

Napoli's Arkadiusz Milik prepares to strike during the UEFA Champions League, Group F, football match FC Shakhtar Donetsk and SSC Napoli at the Metalist stadium in Kharkiv on September...

A reported transfer battle between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur is dead in the water before it has really begun.

Calciomercato reported this weekend that the two North London clubs are keen on Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik.

Milik, 23, is in his second season at Napoli and had begun this campaign well, with two goals in his opening three games.

Now Football Italia report Milik is believed to have ruptured his ACL and is likely to require surgery.

The injury came late on in Saturday’s 3-2 Serie A win over SPAL.

Arkadiusz Milik of SSC Napoli celebrates his goal during the Serie A match between Hellas Verona and SSC Napoli at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on August 19, 2017 in Verona, Italy.

It is a devastating blow for the Poland international, who missed the majority of last season also with an ACL tear, getting injured last October.

Prior to that point he had scored five goals from four starts for Napoli.

Milik made his name at Ajax, scoring 21 goals in 31 games in 2015/16.

As Calciomercato point out, Tottenham and Arsenal may well be admirers of the striker, but his latest injury stops the rumours in their tracks, and takes any possibility of a January deal off the table.
