Leeds United defender is on loan.

Pontus Jansson told the Yorkshire Post after Leeds United’s weekend win that he wants to sign a permanent deal at the club.

Jansson is on loan from Torino, and Leeds will have an option to buy him when he has played 20 games, a figure he should reach in late December.

This is dependent on Leeds paying up, but there is unlikely to be any resistance from Torino based on their own situation.

Torino finished 12th of 20 teams in Serie A last season, but this campaign they are much improved.

They currently sit in seventh position with 19 points from 12 games.

This has the team just two places off a Europa League qualifying spot, with just three points the difference.

Their attacking form is among the best in Serie A, scoring the second highest number of goals, while defensively they are middle of the pack.

While they have not kept a clean sheet in their last five games, Torino have not conceded more than two goals in a single game this season.

With three wins in their last five games, and bottom side Crotone up next, there is plenty of reason to be positive for fans of Turin’s second club.

It is easy to question the wisdom of letting a player as talented as Pontus Jansson leave on loan, but Torino are no worse for it, and at this stage would surely prefer the money to re-invest.

The 25-year-old was a bit part player at the club last season, making only seven Serie A appearances.

If they could finish in seventh it would match Torino’s 2013/14 campaign, their best since 1991/92. With the season going so well, they are unlikely to throw a spanner in the works regarding their proposed agreement with Leeds United over Jansson’s transfer.
