Rangers have confirmed that Jordan Jones has left the club.

The Northern Ireland international, who joined Rangers, his boyhood team, in 2019, has left Ibrox for good.

Jones has joined Wigan Athletic in League One on a permanent basis.

Despite joining two years ago, the former Kilmarnock winger only managed 19 games for the Gers, scoring once.

He has a lot of talent but had incurred the wrath of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard on a number of occasions, like for breaching covid-19 protocols last season.

Here’s how some fans of the Scottish side reacted on Twitter:

Over before it started

You could argue that his Rangers career was over before it even really started.

Just minutes into his first Old Firm game, Jones was sent off for a rotten challenge on Celtic loanee Moritz Bauer, but it was the light Blues man who wound up spending months on the sidelines for injuring himself in the process.

That incident seemed to just set the tone for a lukewarm Rangers spell overall and this departure will shock nobody, not least the player himself.
