Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Oliver Skipp and his performances in Spurs training.

There was so much hype around Skipp a couple of seasons ago during is incredible loan spell with Norwich City, but sadly, due to injuries and managerial changes, the midfielder hasn’t really been able to establish himself as a Spurs star.

However, according to Gold, Skipp is still a player that Antonio Conte really likes, while the journalist says that he’s heard that he’s been absolutely brilliant in training as of late, topping the charts in a number of the fitness drills recently.

Skipp dominating training

Gold shared what he knows about the 22-year-old.

“Similar for Oliver Skipp. He’s a real Conte favourite, he really likes him, but I don’t think he’s done enough since coming back from injury to push his claim,” Gold said.

“A bit like Matt Doherty, he’s another one who is trying to work his way back to full fitness, but from everything I hear he’s kind of topping the charts in the fitness stuff in training most of the time. I think it’s a sharpness thing as well and being played in the right position. He is one of those where I hope they don’t consider loaning him in January.”

Time to kick on

It’s all well and good that Skipp is dominating the fitness drills in training, but now he needs to really kick on in terms of his in-game performances.

With multiple midfielders linked to Spurs and Skipp entering his mid-20s, he needs to begin to really establish himself as a first-team star if he’s going to have a future in north London.

Skipp is a very good player and he has what it takes to earn a spot in the Spurs XI, he just needs to stay fit and stay consistent.
