Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson is convinced that David Turnbull is worth his £3 million price-tag as a long-awaited move to Celtic edges closer, speaking to Sky Sports.
While one of the most exciting young midfielders in Britain was a failed medical away from joining the Premiership champions a year ago, it seems unlikely that a dream move will slip through his fingers for the second time in 12 months.
Celtic are expected to complete the signing of their long-term target sooner rather than later, with the Record reporting that Turnbull missed training today as talks over a move to Parkhead intensify.
The 21-year-old is also expected to be left out of the squad for Motherwell’s Europa League qualifier with Glentoran on Thursday night.
“I don’t get involved in the money side of things, but he was valued at £3m the last time and he’s certainly a £3m player in my eyes,” said Robinson, who himself was linked with a move away from Fir Park recently.
“As a player, not just to me, David is a top, top talent and one of the best I believe Scotland will have ever produced.
“I can’t sing his praises high enough in terms of his mentality and his talent.”
The critics appear to agree with Robinson’s assessment.
After bursting onto the scene with 23 goals and assists from central midfield during a remarkable 2018/19 season, Turnbull was rewarded with the Scottish Football Writer’s Young Player of the Year award.
Expect more silverware to come his way if he joins a Celtic side with their sights fixed on a tenth successive Premiership crown.
