Jose Enrique has claimed that Ben Doak can make it into Liverpool’s first-team under Jurgen Klopp on a ‘more regular basis’ after he penned his first pro contract, as he posted on Instagram.
The 17-year-old made his debut for Liverpool during their EFL Cup penalty shootout win over Derby County and Enrique labelled the player a ‘top talent’.
Jurgen Klopp has used the EFL Cup as a gateway for his young stars to shine in recent years, as Curtis Jones previously took that chance and Caoimhin Kelleher has made this competition his own.
But now it’s time for the next crop to come through, with summer signing Calvin Ramsay impressing during his first start, as well as Bobby Clark.
Well, with eight goals and six assists in 17 youth/reserve games this season, Enrique was sure to big up the next kid on the block.
“It’s too early to speak but he has a top talent,” said Enrique. “If he is able to listen and work hard, then I believe he can make it with us on a more regular basis.”
LIVERPOOL LOOKING TO TURN A CORNER
It has been a pretty bleak start to the 2022/23 season for Klopp and his players.
Those on Merseyside will be hoping that all their problems are now behind them, and when players return from the 2022 World Cup, then normal service resumes.
They will still need to dip into the January transfer market to refresh the squad because things have become stale.
But perhaps the young guns in the academy can also help out because, days after the World Cup final, the Reds will take on Manchester City in the League Cup.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if both managers played their youngsters because quite a lot of their players will still probably be in Qatar, or just returning.
