Clinton Morrison has labelled James Maddison as a ‘top signing’ for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Premier League striker, who is a boyhood Tottenham fan, added that he ‘won’t be happy’ about the 2023 summer transfer window until it slams shut and Harry Kane is still at the club.

If the England captain stays on board – amid Bayern Munich trying to lure him to Germany – then, the link-up play with James Maddison is going to be very entertaining – back in May, Danny Murphy dubbed the England star as a ‘very rare’ player, as he told talkSPORT.

That’s something Spurs fans haven’t had for a while, with Morrison adding that the team was ’nowhere near it’ during the previous campaign, as he told Sky Sports.

There was big hope that Antonio Conte would do the business, but in the end, he was booted out and the campaign ended with no European football at all.

How Spurs react without that in 23/24 will be interesting to see, with Morrison sharing his thoughts on Maddison and the rest of the window.

“I think it’s going to take time,” said Morrison. “Maddison is a good signing. I like James Maddison. It was a top signing him coming through the door.

“But I won’t be happy until the window is shut and Harry Kane is still at the club. They still need to strengthen.

“You look at the teams around them, the likes of Arsenal, even Brighton, they have brought in very good players. Newcastle have brought in very good players. Everyone is strengthening. Tottenham need to keep up with everyone. They were miles off it last season, nowhere near it.”

Levy finally fills Eriksen’s role

It only took the Tottenham chairman three years, but Christian Eriksen has finally been replaced at Hotspur Way.

Spurs have all the defensive-minded players they can have in the middle of the park, but none of them have that magic or attacking vibrant energy to their game.

Someone like Maddison, who scored ten goals from midfield for Leicester last season, will provide that and try to ease the pressure on those behind him.
