Gary Cahill has posted on his Instagram story that Everton have got a ‘top player’ in Andros Townsend.
Crystal Palace winger, Wilfried Zaha, also added his thoughts on Everton’s new signing by posting ‘good luck my guy’ on his own Instagram story.
Everton confirmed on Tuesday that they have secured the free talents of Townsend after he left Crystal Palace this summer upon the expiry of his contract.
Both Cahill and Zaha played alongside the left-footed speedster at Selhurst Park for many years, so they will know exactly what he can bring to the table.
Everton fans were perhaps looking for the big-money signings this summer, but after a number of years of spending, it looks like the club are changing tact.
Townsend has the experience, both domestically and on the international scene and he has played on the big stage before, including in Europe.
Added with that, he will bring some much-needed speed and creative talent to Everton’s wide areas.
Townsend’s direct talent, ability to attack the penalty area and showcase great crossing ability on either foot is going to be highly valued by those at Goodison Park next season.
Plus, like he showed at Manchester City a number of years ago, he has a rocket of a left foot and can thump the ball into the back of the net if need be.
