Arsenal Invincible Lauren spoke to Goal ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign.

The Gunners finished last season on a high after winning the FA Cup. Mikel Arteta’s side lifted the Community Shield as well last month, which will give them massive confidence going into the new campaign.

Despite the highs, Arsenal still need a lot of help in their squad. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes’ arrival has bolstered their defence massively but their midfield is still a concern.

Dani Ceballos has returned for another year on loan, which is a brilliant move. But the Gunners need someone solid defensively in the deeper midfield role.

Arsenal’s priority target this summer is reportedly Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian is viewed by many as the perfect addition to Arteta’s squad, and Lauren has urged the Gunners boss to bring him in before the window closes.

Lauren is a big fan

He said: “He’s (Partey) a top player. He’s been improving under [Diego] Simeone. We’ve seen this guy since his early days with Mallorca, so he stepped up to a bigger club with Atletico Madrid and kept performing well, improving year after year.

“Before he was used as a holding midfielder. Now he can pass the ball, play with the striker, have shots from outside the box and even score important goals, as we saw last year in the Champions League. If Arsenal decide to sign him, I think it will be a fantastic addition in the middle of the park.”

Partey would definitely be a brilliant addition to Arsenal’s squad. The La Liga star can do everything in central midfield and he would form an incredible trio alongside Granit Xhaka and Ceballos.

However, the biggest stumbling block is his release clause. Atletico Madrid have made it clear that they will not let him leave for anything less than £45 million (Telegraph) which has made it extremely difficult for Arsenal to pursue the deal.
