Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has been keen to praise one Arsenal player who has helped him settle into the England squad.

After moving to Crystal Palace back in January from Blackburn Rovers, midfielder Adam Wharton has made an instant impact in South London.

Under Oliver Glasner, the English midfielder has excelled and was a surprise selection in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the European Championship in Germany.

Wharton featured in two friendlies and showed glimpses of his quality and there is a chance the Englishman could be lining up alongside Declan Rice for the Three Lions’ first game against Serbia on Sunday.

Wharton on Rice

Speaking to the media ahead of England’s opening game of the Euros this weekend, the midfielder was keen to praise Rice for helping him acclimatise to the England team.

“I spoke to Declan and he is a top player, you have seen that in the last few seasons,” Wharton said, as per the talkSPORT. “The way Arsenal play has shown what he can produce and he is a top guy off the pitch as well.

“I’ve been getting those little things. It’s everyone really, learning off everyone but especially him. He’s in a similar position to me and it is good to pick up on things.

“Even if it’s body positioning when the ball is in a certain position, or bits of communication. It just helps you when you are on the pitch. The way team-mates communicate makes it easier for you.”

Wharton and Mainoo key

Wharton is not the only inexperienced midfielder who has been called up for the major tournament with Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo also called up.

Mainoo netted in the FA Cup final against Manchester City and the teenager has gone from strength to strength for the Red Devils.

As for Wharton, it has been a meteoric rise for the midfielder and there would be little surprise to see the Palace midfielder line up alongside Rice for the tournament.
