Okay so it’s getting serious now: Arsenal desperately need a striker.
The Gunners drew 0-0 with Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Sean Dyche’s side are difficult to break down and all but, come on, this is Arsenal and even during their lowest period under Arsene Wenger – his last season – they still beat the Clarets 5-0 at home.
Alexandre Lacazette’s profligacy continued against Burnley and Mikel Arteta’s outfit are now four games across all competitions without finding the net.
The speculation about Arsenal having a £58 million bid for Dusan Vlahovic accepted by Fiorentina represents some very much-needed hope.
However, the Spanish manager has dampened that with some post-match comments on Sunday.
Speaking to the club’s official website about transfers, Arteta said: “Well, we are certainly trying, but I don’t know if we’re going to be able to do it.”
If you were a betting person you certainly wouldn’t be backing Arsenal to sign Vlahovic – or anybody – based on the above quote.
Thing is, the North Londoners are only two points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand.
In other words, Champions League qualification is in their own hands and a handful of new signings might just get them over the line.
However, Arsenal supporters aren’t optimistic and here’s how they’re reacting to Arteta’s latest transfer comments on Twitter:
