Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing some of the English players playing abroad, including Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.

There’s been a recent trend of English players opting to go abroad to learn their craft, but after Jadon Sancho’s difficult start to life in the Premier League, there’ve been questions about whether or not this is actually benefitting these players’ careers.

Wright is an advocate of moving abroad. He’s previously been full of praise for Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham and now he’s spoken about his admiration of Bellingham.

What’s been said?

Wright was full of praise for the Dortmund midfielder, labelling him ‘elite’.

“Look at Jude Bellingham. Look at Jude and it’s really interesting because I read something the other day from the coach at Birmingham and he made his debut at 16 when they had nine points deducted and they were fighting. He said to the coach that he feels he’s a number 10 and his coach said, I see you as a 22 because you’re a 10, 8 and a six,” Wright said.

“Wherever Bellingham finds himself in the midfield he does elite things, he does top-end stuff.”

Ready-made star

Bellingham is a fantastic footballer, and it seems as though he’s a ready-made Premier League star.

As with any English player abroad, there’s something of an assumption that Bellingham will end up back in England one day, and if reports are to be believed he could be Liverpool-bound.

Sancho may be struggling at Manchester United, but based on Bellingham’s performances for England and in the Champions League, it’s hard to imagine that the midfielder will have similar issues.
