‘Top drawer’: Henderson stunned by Liverpool 25-year-old in training

Luis Diaz opened his account for Liverpool on Saturday.

The former Porto attacker scored Liverpool’s third goal in a 3-1 victory over Norwich City at Anfield.

Diaz, a £49 million January signing, latched on to a brilliant pass from captain Jordan Henderson before finishing well to kill off the Canaries – who took the lead – once and for all.

The 25-year-old seems to have enjoyed a rapid transition to life in the Premier League, with this being his first foray into English football.

And Henderson has lavished praise on the Colombia international, lauding his work ethic in training and his ‘top drawer’ finishing.

He told BBC Sport: “He’s been brilliant since he came in. His work rate in training and games. His quality as well one versus one. His finishing you can see is top drawer as well.

“So I’m really pleased for him. Hopefully that will give him a boost in confidence to keep going.”

Massive

Diaz could be a massive player for Liverpool between now and the remainder of the current campaign.

That’s because Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are both sidelined with injury at the moment.

Both are majorly important players for the Merseysiders and their absence will increase the pressure on Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – who both netted against Norwich as well – to maintain their red-hot goalscoring form.

But Diaz will also be asked to contribute in Jota and Firmino’s absence.

In a way it’s almost unfair to pile the pressure on the South American this early in his Liverpool career but, with two enormous players injured and Jurgen Klopp’s outfit potentially back in the title race, it’s necessary.
