Sakho returned to Crystal Palace permanently from Liverpool last month.

Few Liverpool supporters will perhaps be surprised to learn that Mamadou Sakho’s return to action coincided with Crystal Palace’s first clean sheet of the campaign.
Sakho, who spent the second half of last season on loan to Palace – helping to keep them in the Premier League, returned to Selhurst Park permanently in August, on a deal which is thought to have netted Liverpool £25 million.
But as the Frenchman earned rave reviews as the Eagles beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, his old side’s all-too-familiar defensive issues were again being scrutinised after a 2-0 defeat against Leicester City in the same competition.

And many Palace fans cannot believe their luck…
While Sakho was busy keeping goals out against the Terriers, his namesake Bacary Sako was on target to hand Roy Hodgson – the former Liverpool manager – his first win in charge of his local side.
And Palace will hope to build on Tuesday’s result – only the second one out of seven this season not to have ended in defeat – when they return to league action against Manchester City on Saturday.
