Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey could be heading to Everton or Tottenham Hotspur, with his agent and adopted father describing the Premier League duo as ‘two top clubs’, while speaking to the Jamaica Observer.

There may be a nagging feeling that Bailey has failed to build on an exceptional breakthrough season at the Bayer Arena in 2017/18. But that does not mean the 23-year-old is short of offers with just two weeks left in the transfer window.

Sky claims that the former Genk star, who is desperate to prove himself on British soil, is in Spurs’ sights.

Then again, a £40 million price-tag could place him agonizingly out of reach.

It is no secret meanwhile that Everton are hoping to bring a goal-scoring wide man to Goodison Park and, if the Express is to be believed, Goodison Park is Bailey’s most likely destination at present.

“Tottenham and Everton are two top clubs and deserve our respect and due consideration,” Craig Butler said, pouring copious amounts of fuel on the fire.

“(Spurs boss) Jose Mourinho is indeed a top-class coach and we admire these clubs whilst remaining loyal and respectful to Bayer Leverkusen and the employment contract we have with them.

“Each professional footballer’s goal is to move to the highest level and be the best he can be.”

Bailey, an explosive left winger with a penchant for searing set pieces, started just 12 Bundesliga games last term, falling behind Moussa Diaby in Leverkusen’s pecking order while being comfortably outshone by the exceptional Kai Havertz.

£40 million is a lot of money to pay for a man who cannot even secure a starting place at Germany’s fifth best club.
