However, the former Real Madrid striker has added that he wants to end his playing career at his former club River Plate.
According to TuttoJuve, Newcastle are interested in signing the Argentine in the summer transfer window and could make an offer.
The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Juve will let the 32-year-old striker leave on a loan deal if the interested club are willing to pay his yearly salary of €7.5 million (£6.72 million) in full.
Higuain told TyC Sport, as transcribed and translated by Goal.com: “River are a club that gave me everything, from letting me develop to Real Madrid buying me, but right now I don’t know what’s going to happen. My head is here [in Turin].
“[Marcelo] Gallardo’s team are very exciting, they have quality, strength, everything. The truth that you watch them and their number nine gets many chances.
“Clearly someone who played for River before will watch that team, see themselves there and say, ‘how nice’.
“Gallardo has caught everyone’s eyes and he’s earned it. I’d think about going back to River to retire.”
Risky signing for Newcastle United?
Higuain is a very good striker, but at the age of 32, the former Madrid star is past his prime.
While a loan move for a player who has won league titles in Spain and Italy would be good for Newcastle, his previous spell in England did leave much to be desired.
The former River star – described by former Newcastle manager and then Napoli boss Rafael Benitez as “a top-class player” in August 2013, as quoted in The Guardian – was on loan at Chelsea from Juventus during the second half of 2018-19 campaign.
According to WhoScored, Higuain scored five goals in 14 Premier League matches, and played only 24 minutes in the Europa League for Chelsea.
