Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been singing the praises of a reported Newcastle United target.

The Reds are gearing up for a tricky test against Graham Potter’s Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Potter was among the leading candidates to replace Steve Bruce at Newcastle.

And should the English coach mastermind another victory at Liverpool, having overseen a 1-0 win at Anfield in February, then the clamouring for him to join the Magpies will only intensify.

Pep Guardiola is on record as saying that he’s the finest homegrown manager in the Premier League.

And the Liverpool boss has sort of echoed those sentiments, describing his opposite number today as ‘top class’.

He told a pre-match press conference: “It was always difficult [for us] since he has been there. I have to say he is a top-class manager, nothing else to say.”

Is Potter going to Newcastle?

Well it’s fair to say that other coaches, like Paulo Fonseca, are getting a lot more column inches with regards to the job at St James’s Park.

But Potter certainly fits the reported criteria.

Jim White revealed on talkSPORT earlier in October that Newcastle would be looking for an English coach with Premier League experience, which isn’t good for Fonseca.

It does, however, suggest that Potter could be a genuine target and if he orchestrates two away wins at Liverpool in the space of a year, Saudi Public Investment Fund will sit up and take even more notice.
