Isaac Hayden has stated on Instagram that Sam Byram was ‘top class’ during Leeds United’s 2-2 draw against Cardiff City in the Championship on Sunday at Elland Road.

The 29-year-old recently made a return to Leeds United colours when he signed a one-year contract after he left Norwich City on a free transfer this summer – Alex Mowatt delivered his reaction.

And Daniel Farke, who worked with Sam Byram at Carrow Road, handed the versatile defender his second Leeds debut yesterday, and he impressed.

The former West Ham man didn’t start the game, but with his team 2-0 down, he was brought on as a second-half substitute.

Playing as a left-back, he made an instant impact by stamping his authority on the game with his positivity and constant want to attack the opposition’s defence.

After the game, he took to his Instagram to react to donning the Leeds colours again, as he was praised by his fellow players in the comments section, including former Whites man Tom Pearce telling him that he ‘loved it’.

“Amazing feeling to play my first minutes back in front of a packed Elland road😍,” said Byram
“Not the result we deserved overall, but it’s a point on the board. Thanks for your support.”

Byram now needs to start

It needs to be remembered that Byram can operate at right-back and that’s probably something Farke needs to look at moving forward.

Luke Ayling just isn’t on it and struggled again against Cardiff, but either way, Byram now needs to start.

Whilst the defence still has its issues, the attack was full of life, spark and threat, including from the young guns, Wilfried Gnonto and goalscorer, Crysencio Summerville.
