Aaron Ramsdale and Manchester City defender John Stones have spoken highly about Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal goalkeeper stated that Mikel Arteta is ‘top-class’, whilst John Stones added that his former coach, just like Pep Guardiola, is ‘very detailed’ in his work, as they told Sky Sports News (14/05/23).

In 2019, Mikel Arteta swapped sitting next to Pep Guardiola in the Etihad dugout, as he took the reigns at struggling Arsenal.

Life started with an FA Cup win, before the club struggled and finished outside of Europe.

But it was all part of the rebuilding process, which saw the Gunners sit at the top of the Premier League table for over 200 days this term, only to now be pipped by the unstoppable winning force of the champions.

The work Guardiola has done in English football is there for all to see, but his student is also showcasing his worth in north London, which both Ramsdale and Stones touched upon.

“He’s top-class really,” said Ramsdale. ”He lives and breathes football. He is so methodical in everything he does.”

Stones added: “Definitely (sees echoes of what Man City do at Arsenal). That’s why they work so well because they (Guardiola and Arteta) bounced ideas off each other when they were here.

“Then Mikel has gone on to do his own thing and probably tweaked those ideas with Arsenal. They were so good together. Mikel, for me as well, they are two very detailed people that understand football so well.”

GUARDIOLA AND ARTETA RIVALRY

It’s not exactly Sir Alex Ferguson vs Arsene Wenger, but could this be a rivalry that grows during these coming years?

Come the weekend, Man City should be crowned champions again.

But Arsenal will want to show that they have learnt from this season’s slip-up and push for the title again next term.
