Arsenal target Sami Khedira is keen to stay at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has given his strongest indication yet he wants to stay at the club.
The World Cup winner’s contract expires at the end of the season and the reigning Champions League winners have not yet managed to get him to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Premier League side Arsenal have been strongly linked with his signature, in desperate need of a top class defensive midfielder.
Centre-back Per Mertesacker even made a public plea for him to join him at the Gunners earlier this year.
Yet Khedira has suggested he is keen to remain in Madrid. He told German newspaper Stuttgart Nachtrichten: “If we find a solution I would be happy.”
Continuous injury problems have made the last two seasons difficult for the midfielder, but he says he is keen to prove his worth.
This season he has not made a single La Liga or Champions League start, making all five of his appearances off the substitute’s bench.
“I’m back in good physical level and therefore very confident that soon I will be able to have my chance to play. I am a friend of strong competition.”
Until his contract is signed however, signing Khedira is not impossible, but considering his injury problems and Arsenal’s own issues with players on the treatment table, the Gunners may well be well advised to look elsewhere.
