Did Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli win the award? Or did West Ham’s Dimitri Payet have any luck with either of his two entries? Liverpool, Leicester and Manchester City stars were trying to get in on the action with their entries.

The results from HITC Sport’s poll looking at the Premier League’s best goal of 2016 are in. But did your favourite goal from the calendar year make it?

6. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City vs West Brom)

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero may have scored perhaps the most famous Premier League goal in recent memory, but there is no question that his strike against West Brom in October was more impressive. After taking a touch to take him away from the group of Baggies players surrounding him, he unleashed a wicked effort into the top corner from 20 yards.

5. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City vs Liverpool)

Leicester City were well on their way towards the Premier League title when Liverpool visited the King Power in February. The game was decided by two goals from Jamie Vardy, including one that left the stadium rocking as a long ball from Riyad Mahrez allowed the England forward to hit a stunning volley from outside the box that left Simon Mignolet with no chance.

4. Dimitri Payet (West Ham vs Crystal Palace)

The Frenchman features in the countdown twice for West Ham. The first entry was a sensational free-kick against Crystal Palace back in April. Payet had the audacity to attempt to score on the side of the goal the goalkeeper took his position on, and after getting the most outrageous amount of dip and curve on the ball, he found the top corner.

3. Jordan Henderson (Liverpool vs Chelsea)

The Liverpool skipper handed his side a 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge in September after scoring a stunning long-range effort from around 35 yards that dipped over Thibaut Courtois and still managed to practically find the top corner.

2. Dimitri Payet (West Ham vs Middlesbrough)

After a slow start to the season, West Ham desperately needed some inspiration in the game with Middlesbrough back in October as it was Boro who had taken the lead. Unsurprisingly, step forward Dimitri Payet. The playmaker received the ball some 35 yards from the goal and proceeded to take on five defenders before guiding the ball into the bottom corner.

1. Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace)

The Tottenham midfielder’s goal against Crystal Palace was voted the best Premier League goal of 2016 by HITC Sport readers and it is not difficult to see why. After the ball was headered into his path, Alli kept the ball in the air by firstly, settling it with the inside of his foot, before lifting it over the onrushing Palace defender and smashing home an exquisite volley into the bottom corner from around 20 yards.

It was another indication that Tottenham have a very special talent on their hands in the young England international.
