Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City, Arsenal and Chelsea signings all make the top-five.
Everton’s Ashley Williams
This summer’s transfer window saw more money spent than ever before by Premier League clubs, with over £1 billion being laid out on some of the world’s best players.
Here are five of the best value signings made over the summer:
1. Ashley Williams – Swansea City to Everton, £12 million:
The Welsh international established himself as one of the league’s best defenders during his time at the Liberty Stadium.
A consistent performer, he is always willing to put his body on the line for his club, and the 32-year-old will be able to offer Everton many years of top-level professional service.
He is combative in style, and his no-nonsence approach to defending provides his team with a reassuring influence at the back.
A steal for £12 million.
2. N’Golo Kante – Leicester City to Chelsea, £32 million:
Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante
Despite the somewhat large fee, the French international must still be considered a snip in modern-day terms.
While Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez received most of the plaudits for the Foxes Premier League success last term, it was Kante who allowed them the freedom to express themselves.
Tenacious in the tackle, Kante possesses an incredible engine that allows him to play with such a high intensity for the duration of the game.
He will surely prove to be a great asset to the Chelsea side, and could be the difference between them winning the league title and being mere also-rans.
3. Victor Wanyama – Southampton to Tottenham Hotspur, £11 million:
Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama
Spurs were too heavily reliant on Eric Dier to provide a defensive shield from midfield last term, so the acquisition of Wanyama could prove vital to their hopes of competing on all fronts.
The 25-year-old Kenyan is great value for the reported £11 million paid by Tottenham, and his aggressive, ball-winning style will bring something entirely different to Mauricio Pochettino’s line-up.
4. Ahmed Musa – CSKA Moscow to Leicester City, £16.6 million:
Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa
The Foxes substantially upgraded their forward line over the summer, and the signing of Musa could prove to be a fantastic piece of business by Claudio Ranieri.
He possesses electric pace, which he showcased during his side’s friendly against Barcelona where he scored two goals.
The 23-year-old Nigerian international is an accomplished finisher, and although there is still room for improvement in his game, he possesses all the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League.
5. Granit Xhaka – Borussia Mönchengladbach to Arsenal, £34 million:
The Swiss international was exactly the kind of player that Arsene Wenger needed, and despite his hefty transfer fee, he could prove to be great value for Arsenal.
He is a younger upgrade on Mikel Arteta, with a more aggressive style. He possesses a fantastic range of passing and is strong in the tackle.
A natural leader, Xhaka could be the player who gives Arsenal that nasty streak they have desperately missed since the departure of Patrick Vieira over a decade ago.
