Rio Ferdinand has placed Liverpool as the fifth biggest football club in the world, whilst he has Manchester United at the top of his list, as he told Vibe with Five.
It’s no surprise that the former Premier League centre-back has put Manchester United top of the tree given that he won numerous trophies with the club under Sir Alex Ferguson.
But Liverpool and Manchester United were only the English clubs Ferdinand had in his own top-five list.

Spanish giants Barcelona were second for Ferdinand, with their fiercest rivals and 14-time European Cup winners, Real Madrid, third and German powerhouses, Bayern Munich, in fourth and then Liverpool making up the list.
There are some big fish that Ferdinand has left out, none other than the Italian duo, Juventus and AC Milan, but he explained why he didn’t pick them.
“Man United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool,” said Ferdinand.
On AC Milan and Juventus: “Yeah, in years gone by. If this was ten years ago, maybe. Not right now.”

MAN UNITED AND LIVERPOOL – ENGLAND’S BIGGEST
One thing that can’t be debated is that Man United and Liverpool are the two biggest clubs in England.
One sits on 20 titles, whilst the other has 19. In decades gone by and in decades to come, both sets of fans will debate who is the biggest.
The likes of Manchester City can come over with their pot of gold, and whilst they are the dominant team in England right now, they don’t have the rich and powerful history of their rivals.
