Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has made a big coaching change at the start of the 2026 season.

Davidovich Fokina hired former top 10 player Felix Mantilla to his team at the end of the 2024 season, after he had parted ways with Fernando Verdasco.

This new coaching relationship helped launch the best season of Davidovich Fokina’s career, finishing the 2025 season at a career-high ranking of world number 14.

Despite the success he achieved last year, it has now been confirmed that Davidovich Fokina is no longer working with Mantilla.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina changes coach to hire Grand Slam finalist

Davidovich Fokina began his 2026 season at the Brisbane International, where he lost in the first round to Brandon Nakashima.

After playing his first tournament of the year, it has now been reported that Davidovich Fokina has parted ways with Mantilla.

The Spaniard has also replaced Mantilla with another top 10 player, as Davidovich Fokina now has Mariano Puerta on his team.

Puerta is a former French Open finalist and has previously coached other players on the ATP Tour.

This includes Serbian Laslo Djere, and Puerta has also recently worked with Davidovich Fokina’s first opponent of 2026, Nakashima.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has golden opportunity to win first ATP title

While Davidovich Fokina has just enjoyed the best season of his entire career, he is still yet to win an ATP title.

The 26-year-old is the highest ranked player on the ATP Tour yet to win a title, which is something that Davidovich Fokina will want to change in 2026.

After losing four finals in 2025, Davidovich Fokina now has a golden opportunity to win his first ATP title ahead of the Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Adelaide International earlier this week, leaving Davidovich Fokina as the top seed for the upcoming tournament.

Davidovich Fokina will be hoping that he can take advantage of this when the Adelaide International begins on Monday, January 12.
