Players from Chelsea, Tottenham, Bournemouth, Hull, Liverpool, Stoke, West Ham and Middlesbrough all feature.
Chelsea’s Diego Costa is among the most fouled players in the Premier League
Chelsea winger Eden Hazard is the most fouled player in the Premier League on average, having been halted illegally on average 3.3 times per game.
Hazard is no stranger to these type of statistics, having been the most fouled player in the division in 2014/15 and the third most fouled player last season.
His Chelsea teammate Diego Costa has received the second most fouls on average this season, followed by Bournemouth defender Adam Smith and Tottenham duo Danny Rose and Dele Alli.
Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Dele Alli
Next up in sixth place is Hull City winger Robert Snodgrass, the Scotland international has been fouled an average of 2.7 times per game, the same as that of Tottenham star Dele Alli.
Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, who has been a constant thorn in defenders sides so far this season, has been fouled an average of 2.5 times per game, whilst Stoke’s Joe Allen and West Ham’s Dimitri Payet are tied on 2.4 fouls per game.
In tenth place it’s Middlesbrough’s Uruguayan forward Cristhian Stuani, who has been unfairly challenged 2.2 times per game, on average. The full top 10 along with the number of fouls on average per game is below:
Sadio Mane in action for Liverpool
1. Eden Hazard (Chelsea) – 3.3
2. Diego Costa (Chelsea) – 3.0
3. Adam Smith (Bournemouth) – 2.9
4. Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur) – 2.8
5. Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur) – 2.7
6. Robert Snodgrass (Hull City) – 2.7
7. Sadio Mane (Liverpool) – 2.5
8. Joe Allen (Stoke City) – 2.4
9. Dimitri Payet (West Ham United) – 2.4
10. Cristhian Stuani (Middlesbrough) – 2.2
West Ham United ace Dimitri Payet
It’s no surprise that the top 10 features players who’ve all had bright starts to the season, with more than half having been outstanding. Teams have obviously struggled to contain the likes of Hazard, Mane and Payet, which has resulted in regular fouls on said players.
Only two of last seasons top 10 are in this seasons current top 10, namely Eden Hazard and Dele Alli. Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha was the most fouled player in the division on average last season, with Andre Ayew, Riyad Mahrez and Alex Sanchez joining Zaha and Hazard in the top 5.
Hazard’s turn of place, close control and general threat to the opposition has seen him rank among the most fouled players in the Premier League every season since joining Chelsea. Incidentally, sixth placed Robert Snodgrass was the Premier League’s most fouled player per game in the 2013/14 season.
Eden Hazard is fouled more than any other Premier League player
