With the season beginning to reach the business end, managers will start to rely on their most consistent performers to help them take their respective clubs towards their goals for the campaign. With that in mind, HITC Sport is taking a look at some of the crucial statistics from the season so far to get a better idea of who the best performers have been.
In this list which features players from Tottenham, West Ham, Southampton and Everton amongst others, we look at the 10 most successful tacklers in the Premier League this term…
10. Matthew Lowton (Burnley)
Burnley appear to be in with an excellent chance of securing a second consecutive season at the highest level, and the form of Matthew Lowton has played some part in that. The right-back has made 50 successful challenges this term, and is actually tied for 10th spot with teammate George Boyd.
9. Ander Herrera (Manchester United)
Ander Herrera’s tackling may have landed him in trouble in Manchester United’s FA Cup tie with Chelsea on Monday night, but he is normally excellent at winning the ball, having won 51 challenges this term.
8. Victor Wanyama (Tottenham Hotspur)
Victor Wanyama has undoubtedly proved to be an excellent signing for Tottenham, winning 51 challenges this season. His presence in the Spurs side has arguably been crucial as it has allowed the attacking players in the Tottenham squad to play with a lot of freedom going forward.

7. Pedro Obiang (West Ham)
Pedro Obiang is arguably one of the most underrated players in the Premier League – certainly, West Ham supporters will suggest that he has not got the credit he deserves. Without the Spaniard winning 52 tackles, it is arguably worrying to imagine where the Hammers would be this term.
6. Christian Fuchs (Leicester City)
When Claudio Ranieri was sacked by Leicester, many of the players came in from criticism for not trying to help save the Italian’s job with their performances on the pitch. It would certainly appear however, that Christian Fuchs did try, having won 54 tackles throughout the campaign so far.
5. Oriol Romeu (Southampton)
Oriol Romeu has really started to look like the player that Barcelona and Chelsea had hoped he would be this term, much to Southampton fans’ delight. He has won 61 challenges this term, and he may arguably be the player that the Saints should be most worried about losing in the summer.
4. N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)
N’Golo Kante looks set to win back-to-back Premier League titles with different clubs having been as influential for Chelsea this term as he was for Leicester last year. He has won 63 challenges this term and is surely a contender to win most of the division’s individual accolades at the end of the campaign.
3. Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been leading by example this term, winning 64 challenges. With their attacking depth and his performances in the middle of the park, Jurgen Klopp must know that strengthening the Reds’ defence is all that stands between them and a title challenge.
2. Erik Pieters (Stoke City)
With Stoke City on course for a fourth consecutive ninth place finish in the league, the one word that could be used to describe them is consistent. Erik Pieters’ form has certainly helped maintain that consistency, also making 64 successful challenges throughout the campaign.

1. Idrissa Gueye (Everton)
Incredibly, Idrissa Gueye has made 14 more successful tackles than any other player in the top 10 despite playing fewer games than any of the top six. The Everton man has proved an inspired signing, and at £7.1 million (via Guardian), it must surely be said that he deserves to be considered the bargain signing of the season across the entire division.
