Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Raheem Sterling’s career after he joined Chelsea.

The England international has left Manchester City after seven incredibly successful years at the Etihad, and Ferdinand had nothing but good things to say about the winger.

Ferdinand reflected on Sterling’s initial decision to leave Liverpool for City, and he says that, in hindsight, the attacker made the right decision.

What’s been said?

Ferdinand discussed Sterling’s move to City in 2015.

“He was devastating at a young kid, and then he got transferred from Liverpool to Manchester City for a huge fee. He took a risk in some people’s eyes leaving a club that took a chance on him with Liverpool with great history and a great forward line, and he saw the opportunity to win big trophies immediately,” Ferdinand said.

“He said himself in the post he put up that he came here a boy and left a man. 11 trophies, you can’t argue with that. From a team point of view, he made the right decision 100 per cent to go to City when he did.”

Worked well for all parties

Liverpool fans may still feel aggrieved by Sterling’s decision to ditch them in 2015, but this is a rare case of a move that worked out well for everyone.

Sterling won the trophies he was looking for, Manchester City got exactly what they wated out of this signing, while Liverpool would reinvent themselves and Sadio Mane would eventually act as Sterling’s replacement – hitting heights that Sterling may never have been able to if he’d stayed at Anfield.

This transfer worked out well for everyone involved, and as Ferdinand says, in hindsight, it’s proven to be the right decision.
