Fabinho has told Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes that he has ‘too much quality’, as the Liverpool midfielder posted on his Instagram story.
Newcastle’s January signing had posted on his own Instagram story ‘my brother’ added with a captain of Fabinho chasing his fellow countryman in Brazil training.
On Thursday, Brazil thrashed South Korea 5-1 in a friendly, with both Guimaraes and Fabinho earning minutes for their country – both came off the bench.
The World Cup favourites will continue their tour of Asia on Monday when they face off against Japan.
Once again, it’s a friendly encounter, so with Gasemiro and Fred starting the previous game in the middle of the park, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Fabinho and Guimaraes start together tomorrow.
Either way, it has been some rise for Newcastle’s all-action midfielder who has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.
The 24-year-old arrived on Tyneside with the club in a heap of mess and needing picking up after the now-forgettable Mike Ashley era had come to an end.
As Guimaraes was entering the building at St James’ Park, results started to turn in the positive direction for Eddie Howe and his men.
But as soon as the Brazil star earned regular minutes and stars for his new club, he instantly became a fan favourite, words which have since been echoed by club legend, Alan Shearer.
Come next season, those at St James’ Park are only looking one way and that’s up, as the Magpies aim for a top-ten finish.
Of course, the aim is to get back into Europe and beyond, but at this moment in time, it’s all about those small steps.
