Jose Enrique has said on Twitter that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United should not pay £50 million for Manchester City central defender Nathan Ake.

The former Newcastle star believes that Ake is not worth the £50 million that Manchester City are reportedly demanding for him.

The Sun reported over the weekend that Newcastle are interested in signing Netherlands international central defender Ake from Premier League rivals Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

City are willing to sell the 27-year-old, but they want £50 million for him, according to the report.

Newcastle United urged not to sign Nathan Ake for £50m

In our view, Newcastle United should not pay £50 million for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake.

It is too much.

City paid Bournemouth £41 million in 2020 to sign the defender, and he has not really done much of note in his two seasons at City to see his price-tag go up.

Yes, there have been injury problems, but we cannot ignore that Ake has been a peripheral figure at City.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe worked with Ake at Bournemouth and knows all about him.

We do believe that Ake would make Newcastle better at the back, but if £50 million is what he would cost, then PIF should just walk away.
